“For a first book, A Throne in Exile is very well written. Anil Bahuman does a good job of getting under the skin of the characters, explaining their motivations and describing their inner turmoils in a manner that most of us can relate to. He also does a good job in the first chapter by setting up the conflict that forms the heart of the story. The drawback (if it can be called that) is that the book seems to have been written with a TV series in mind, and contains very visual descriptions of the story settings. This makes the language flowery, at times, and slows down the pace of the narrative. Some may like it, some may not, and this is a very personal choice. Above all, what makes the book very interesting is the empathy with which Anil treats each of the characters in the book. This humanizes the personalities in India's most beloved mythological story, and makes them relatable to us lesser mortals. I look forward to the sequel, and the TV series.”
